Cayuga Case Study

The Situation:

The Cayuga Collection is a hospitality management company that offers management services to owners of small, sustainable luxury hotels, resorts and eco-lodges. Many of those hotels are started by dreamers and visionaries that, “want to make the world a better place,” through conservation and community development and using the hotel or lodge as a tool to achieve that goal. Tartan provides a wide range of public relations and digital services for the Cayuga Collection and its eco-lodges, including: pitching; developing writer, influencer and fam trips; print and digital media monitoring; and digital media marketing expertise. In 2016, Tartan worked with Cayuga to develop and market a new culinary program in Costa Rica which was not known as a culinary destination.

The Insight:

With eight sustainable eco-lodges across Costa Rica and Nicaragua, the Cayuga Collection is best known for it’s no-compromise approach to luxury sustainability. Cayuga faced a unique challenge of bringing a new culinary program to the North American market.

The Solution:

Tartan worked with the Cayuga marketing and operations team to develop a series of culinary events, innovative initiatives, and training programs that would then be used as the focus of a targeted media outreach plan to elevate awareness of the Costa Rican culinary product. The ‘Guest Chefs’ program brought chefs from major US cities to the Cayuga hotels for a week at a time to cook for guests and assist in training the staff on new menu items. Tartan was able to leverage the profile of these chefs and also gain media exposure in the chef’s home city.

The Cayuga Collection hotels are the first properties outside of North America to participate in the Dock to Dish program to highlight sustainable seafood practices. Tartan was able secure placement for this story in major outbound cities throughout North America.
